Insurance Authority Provides the Service of Insurance Dispute Resolution and Settlement Remotely
The Insurance Dispute Settlement and Resolution Committees at the Insurance Authority (IA) started carrying out its work and tasks remotely, as part of the series of precautionary and preventive procedures taken by the Insurance Authority to ensure the safety of customers and employees and maintain the public health.
Further, the IA made the service of receiving insurance complaints or disputes electronically available through the Insurance Disputes Resolution System at the IA’s website: www.ia.gov.ae This is part of the set of smart and electronic services provided by the IA to avoid visits and gatherings in the service centers aiming to curb the spread of the novel Coronavirus “COVID-19”.
The Insurance Dispute Settlement and Resolution Committee at the IA practices its work remotely using many technologies and audio-visual communication means .In addition to leveraging the advanced electronic and smart infrastructure available in the IA, in receiving disputes and the related documents, as well as, in discussing them with the members of the committee and issuing the proper legal judgement and endorsing ,then notifying the complainant against insurers, such as; the insured , beneficiaries or affected parties , of final judgments . Ultimately, this will contribute to the limit gatherings in this period and reduce the number of visitors, as well as, saving efforts, time and costs entailed by the presence of all parties.
The Insurance Authority is continuously working to develop its services and dedicate its various capabilities, thus, contributing to the prompt resolution of insurance disputes and protecting the rights of all parties.
The Insurance Dispute Settlement and Resolution Committees has been formed in implementation of Federal Law No. (3) of 2018 concerning amending some provisions of Federal Law No. (6) of 2007 on the Establishment of the Insurance Authority and the Organization of Insurance Operations and the amendments thereof, which entrusted the Authority to form committees to settle and resolve insurance disputes before judicial recourse.
The formation of the Insurance Dispute Settlement and Resolution Committees by the Authority in Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the current phase is an important and qualitative step in the provision of alternative means to resolve and address disputes arising from insurance contracts in the domestic market. In the meanwhile, the Insurance Dispute Settlement and Resolution Committees contribute to enhancing the competitiveness of the UAE’s insurance sector, and the creating trust and confidence amongst policyholders, beneficiaries of insurance, the public and investors in the sector, in the presence of quality means to settle and resolve insurance disputes and a specialized legal and judicial system that take swift and simplified actions without cost or financial burden.
