Two out of three hotels leak your sensitive data
20 May
USA – Symantec released a study showing 67% of hotel websites are unintentionally leaking guests’ booking details to third-party sites.
The study examined more than 1,500 hotels spread across 54 countries including the US and Canada. The hotels ranged from two-star motels to five-star luxury resorts. Among the personal information that was inadvertently leaked to third-party services include full names, e-mail addresses, credit card details, and passport numbers.
The main issue involved confirmation e-mails sent to guests that contained a direct access link to the booking. As a result, multiple third-party services could log into a reservation and view personal details.
